You do not want to miss this. Living at this place is a completely amazing experience, impossible to describe with words - it must be experienced - the best views of the Japanese Alps and the world's best Airbnb hosts. If you are interested in nature and want to experience Japan from its most beautiful side, this is the ultimate place to live. Not only is the location and the accommodation itself unsurpassed - Kim's and Machiko's hospitality is beyond the usual. Kim offers to drive you to the area's sights and provides great advice on everything from shopping to other places to visit in Japan.

A dip in the crystal clear river, monkeys in the backyard, tired legs in a private onsen after hiking - once you've been here, you do not want to leave the place again. We will definitely be back! All seasons must be experienced here.

Stay for as long as you can in this amazing place! (Some good advice: take a minimum of 4 nights here!)

If you are heading to the Omachi-Hakuba area, stop looking, you have found the best! Not only is the place perfectly equipped with everything you need, it is set in beautiful, serene surroundings and Kim and Machiko provide the best hospitality and go above and beyond to ensure this is your best stay. From pick up, to chauffeuring us to and from the ski field and reccomendations to wonderful local restaurants.
January 2016
This was hands down the best place I stayed while I vacationed for two weeks in Japan. Everything here had a personal touch and both Kim and Machiko went above and beyond any and all expectations. They were both waiting for me at the train stop which was easy to travel to from Tokyo and then drove me first to the supermarket to pick up some things and then to there house. This is a huge recommended place for a bit off the beaten path and a personnel authentic Japanese experience..private Onsen included. Close to mountains and a bunch of hiking trails. This is a must return spot!!

Kim and Machiko are probably the best hosts on airbnb! They were extremely welcoming and helpful in assisting us with everything with our stay and also our plans. They picked us up, dropped us off and even researched and made reservations when we wanted to. Communication online and in person made the plans run smoothly. The house was perfect for us being fully equipped, warm, cosy and spacious. The location offered beautiful views especially in the snowy season and was close to the ski resorts. We highly recommend staying here.

During our travels we had the pleasure to stay at some amazing AirBnb's but Momiji Lodge is really something special. Not quite sure if i should start with the private onsen in our supercute yellow house surrounded by monkeys, the well equipped kitchen or the five star treatment Kim and Machiko have given us! Kim drove us EVERYWHERE and they had great advice about the best hikes, great restaurants and well.. basically anything Japanese! The surroundings are BEAUTIFUL and we could have easily stayed for a month. Highlight of our three weeks in Japan, highly, HIGHLY recommend this place!!

This is the epitome of what the airbnb experience should be! Kim and Machiko were great hosts; they were very friendly, and the house is very warm and cozy (the bedding is super comfortable, and the private onsen is absolutely perfect after a day of hiking). Their house is in a quiet, secluded area up a little bit away from the town center, but they picked me up and drove me everywhere I wanted to go. Omachi and the mountains of Japan are such scenic areas to visit and a great contrast to the large cities. I hope to be back in the area very soon (and it really seems it doesn't matter what season you visit!), and I will definitely stay with Kim and Machiko again. Arigato gozaimasu!

Momiji Lodges is an incredible and magic accomodation, hosted by a very kind and friendly person named Kim. My partner and I stayed in a wonderful yellow cabin all to ourselves, with its own onsen, kitchen, and fireplace. As part of the stay, Kim drove us around to all the amazing sights, delicious restaurants, ski slopes and also to the local super market when we needed food and supplies. I would highly recommend this accommodation to anyone staying around the area - it is perfectly located for both skiing and hiking through the alpine pass. We could not thank Kim enough, you will be impressed and blown away. We were even lucky enough to get a few inches of snow and had a beautiful white christmas - Omachi is such an incredible area for all travellers.

I cannot begin to explain how wonderful our stay was. Omachi is simply stunning. We couldn't get enough of the mountain views and the wildlife. Kim and Machiko went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. They picked us up at the train station, took us to some really incredible restaurants, and showed us the sights. Would recommend whole heartedly!

This was a really nice stay, probably the best of our trip, with lots of room and a very enjoyable Onsen. Our hosts, Kim & Machiko were great, very friendly and welcoming.
May 2017

We stayed in the self-contained cottage and it was one of the most family-friendly accommodations we've been in. Kim and Machiko had prepared everything we needed as we were travelling with a one year old, from crib to baby change mat and even baby snacks! The private onsen was such a lovely bonus especially after a long day out hiking. Close proximity to the breathtaking Takase Dam and just over an hour away from Kamikochi national park - definitely one of the highlights of our trip! Kim and Machiko were always ready to assist with trip planning or show us the local sights and food. We would definitely love to be back one day!

The host are very very nice people. They provide high quality assistance to our trip. And more exciting, the living circumstances are so nice that we think this is the most wonderful house that we live during our trip. We like this place very much. And if we have an another chance to travel Shinano-Omachi, we will decide to live there without any doubt.

We spent 2 wonderfull nights in our lodge. Kim is the perfect host, he drived us to beautiful sight views and hike spots. One of the best host we've ever met. We definitively recommend him.
October 2015
After busy Tokyo we were looking for a calm and relaxing place in the mountains. Staying with Kim and Machiko exceeded our expectations by far. The 5 days at their place were absolutely wonderful. We enjoyed the beautiful hikes which our host recommended to us as well as the hot onsen in the evening back at the lodge. But most of all, we enjoyed the warm hospitality of this wonderful couple. We felt well at home from the first minute we met them at the Shinano Omachi train station. Machikos breakfast was wonderful (she even changed the menue as one of us isn’t very fond of fish...) and we had many interesting discussions about Japan and the world. With the help of Machiko we rented a car right at the train station, which we can recommend as it provided us with maximum flexibility regarding our daytrips and dinner plans. On our last day we travelled the Alpine Route to Toyama which we can also very much recommend. Kim and Machiko, thank you very much for your hospitality and see you maybe some time in Switzerland!

We cannot thank Kim and Machiko enough for our wonderful stay at Momiji Lodge. The lodge, itself, offered complete escapism in beautiful surroundings, with incredible views of the surrounding forest. The amazing sounds of the Cicada, singing from the trees, transported us into another world and ensured that we started each day of our holiday feeling relaxed and excited about what we might find. We chose to hire a car which enabled us to fully explore the local area, which we would highly recommend so that you can find those hidden treasures, away from the main tourist spots. After a busy day exploring, the Onsen at Momiji lodge was the perfect way to finish an evening, looking across the forest; before retiring to the extremely comfortable futon in our room. The loveliest surprise of our visit was our hosts. Kim and Machiko went above and beyond to make our time with them perfect. They are incredible welcoming, generous, genuine and helpful people who took all the stress out of organising trips and introducing us to the wonders that Omachi has to offer. It was an experience that made our trip very special. An extra thank you to Machiko who helped us with the language and cooked the most delicious and varied breakfast for us each morning. She is a very talented cook! Anybody who enjoys their food will not be disappointed! Alas, the only regret we have is that our holiday was too short! We would not hesitate in recommending Momiji Lodge to anyone. A visit is a truly unforgettable experience and should not be missed.
August 2015
Tokyo, Hiroshima and Kyoto had been wonderful, even in the summer heat and humidity, but it was superb to be at this spacious Japanese lodge surrounded by forest in the relatively cool Alpine foothills, with not a trace of traffic noise. That first evening my wife and I went a walk along the local track past other homes discretely nestled amongst the trees and on to Ryujin Lake. We loved the deep valleys covered by virgin forest and got carried away by watching Macaque monkeys and their babies grooming and foraging at the roadside, such that it got dark before we returned (Kim kindly came out searching for us in his car). My wife has a restricted diet and Machiko was fine about her using the kitchen to cook her own food. In the end we often ended up pooling our food and eating together. Kim and Machiko, in their respective Aussie and Japanese manner, were relaxed and thoughtful and great to be with. The bedroom was spacious, comfortable and decorated charmingly and traditionally. The big onsen bath fed by hot onsen water was really relaxing. Machiko's cooked breakfast each morning was very welcome and I loved the coffee. Each morning Kim and Machiko drove us to the start of our day's journey and made sure we were on the right mountain bus or taxi before leaving us, Machiko lending me her mobile for the day on one occasion when I had forgotten mine. The arrangement was that we phoned several hours later when we had finished walking so that Kim could collect us. This made for exceedingly relaxed days. We went via cable cars and ropeways up along the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route one day, climbing up to the Oyama shrine, with many other people, but the highlight was the comparatively secluded walking beside the nearby Takase Dam, with its turquoise water and surrounding mountains. Any serious walker would do well to go via this dam up onto the mountain ridges which, according to the map, offer many routes which must have stunning views. obviously this areas other attraction is its fine winter skiing but as a non-skier I cannot comment on that. So, in short, an enchanting lodge and immediate surroundings, really helpful, charming hosts, and a superb adjacent mountain landscape. Would love to visit again. Oh, and very helpful and prompt email answers to our varied questions prior to our visit!

Kim and Machiko have been the perfect hosts! They are incredibly generous, attentive, friendly and very passionate with the project they are developing at Momiji. The short time we spent there we really felt at home and as if we were family. They went way beyond expectations to ensure we had a great time in the Japaneese Alps, drove us around and provided us with all the help we needed. The apartment is great.. very comfortable, has an incredible onsen very private and intimate, and all the facilities you need to really enjoy your stay. Wifi works perfect, the views are wonderful and the bed+room is very comfortable. We definitely recommend this place. you would be missing out a lot if you come here and dont stay a few days with them. Highly Recommended!
